In recent years, invisible car clothes have become popular in the automotive aftermarket with various advantages, but at the same time, many car owners have doubts: in the final analysis, isn't invisible car clothes a layer of plastic or rubber film? Indeed, in hot summer, more than 90% of the body is made of metal materials that are easier to absorb heat, and the temperature in the car is generally more than 60 degrees. Some people have successfully roasted fish and fried eggs on the hood. It is normal for motorists to worry about whether high temperature will affect the performance of invisible car clothes. So can invisible car clothes withstand high temperature?
In this small series, I want to say that whether the invisible car clothes can resist the high temperature attack depends on the substrate.
1. The invisible car clothes made of PVC (TPH) substrate are not resistant to high temperature
PVC - polyvinyl chloride, also known as plastic, has poor stability and poor heat resistance. If the temperature is kept above 55 ℃ for a long time, it will decompose slowly. The higher the temperature, the faster the degradation rate; When the temperature is 77 ~ 90 ℃, it will vitrify, while above 100 ℃, hydrogen chloride gas will be produced, which will further catalyze decomposition and discoloration, and the physical and mechanical properties will decline; Therefore, the internal structure of PVC invisible car clothes is easy to change under high temperature, and the performance is very unstable. For example: water pipes exposed to the sun for a long time will become brittle and yellow; Similarly, PVC invisible car clothes are easy to turn yellow, tear the film and leave glue, and sometimes even emit a strange smell.
2. The car clothes made of TPU base material can withstand high temperature of about 120 ℃ and are not afraid of sun exposure
TPU is a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer rubber with tight molecular structure and high temperature resistance. It is divided into aliphatic TPU and aromatic TPU. The glass transition temperature of polyether type (aromatic TPU) is 100.6 ~ 106.1 ℃, that of polyester type (aliphatic TPU) is 108.9 ~ 122.8 ℃, and the brittleness temperature of polyether type and polyester type is lower than - 62 ℃. The vehicle clothing made of TPU is more resistant to high temperature than that made of PVC, and the invisible vehicle clothing made of high-quality TPU substrate (aliphatic TPU), such as yeecr, has stable performance in the temperature range of - 30 ℃ to 120 ℃, and the surface temperature of vehicle paint exposed to the sun is generally 60 ℃, so the invisible vehicle clothing made of TPU is resistant to high temperature.
To sum up, the invisible car clothes made of PVC substrate are not resistant to high temperature, and the invisible car clothes made of TPU substrate are resistant to high temperature, and the better the substrate is, the stronger the high temperature resistance is.
